Why do people actually not come to the office?
Anyone who deals with the future of work sooner or later ends up at the New Work Chat hosted by Gabriel Rath. All the more we were delighted that Jennifer and Yannick were guests in episode #443.
Of course, it was also about the beginnings of days with us. From the idea to the founding, it was only 41 days. For the name, it took three hours. Not recommended for imitation, but we are really proud of it to this day.
At the center of the conversation was the question of what makes an office project successful. From our point of view, there are three things:
Management must be unanimously behind it and know why they are doing the project.
It requires genuine listening and participation instead of an off-the-shelf concept.
And it requires consistency in implementation, even when shortly after moving in, the call for fixed workplaces becomes loud. Because it takes 65 to 250 days for new routines to settle.
The role of the home office was also a topic. We understand the home office as an additional zone for concentrated work. For exchange, collaboration, and creativity, the office is needed. A presence requirement doesn't solve much. The better question is 'Why don't people come?'.
Additionally, the two talked about what offices can learn from film, why neurodiversity is a good benchmark for functioning work environments, and how AI could become a company’s memory.
This and much more can be found in episode #443 of the New Work Chat.
